First of all, consult your doctor to know the quantity of carbohydrates you need to eat in every meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner). For snacks, insure to know and comply with the hours that you have to eat. Usually, this is the allowed quantity of carbohydrates:
• 85 oz of carbohydrates (250 grs). It's equivalent to bread (70 oz, 200 grs) and boiled potatoes (70 oz, 200 gr).
• 25 oz of proteins (80 grs). It's equivalent to meat (35 oz, 100 grs) or fish (70 oz, 200 grs).
• 20 oz of fat (60 grs). It's equivalent to butter or vegetable fat (20 oz, 60 grs).
Example of diabetic diet menu:
Breakfast:
2 slices whole-wheat toast
2 tbs. peanut butter
1 small banana
1 cup of tea or coffee
Snack
10 red or green grapes
½ c. cottage cheese
1 cup of herbal tea
Lunch
2 slices whole-wheat bread
3 oz. lean roast beef
1 cup of raw or steamed cauliflower
1 cup of tea or coffee
Snack
15 almonds
2 small cookies
1 cup of fat-free milk
Dinner
3 oz. of chicken breast, with 1 cup of vegetables of your choice
1 tbs. olive oil (for cooking)
2/3 cup of cooked brown rice
1 cup of fat-free milk
Drinks allowed in the Diabetes Diet Menu
In the diabetic diet, you can drink: spring water, coffee, tea, wine, champagne brut, beer light and whisky.
Tips to Diabetes and Lose Weight
You can lose weight during your diabetic diet, eating daily salad, especially lettuce and fresh cucumbers, with vinegar and fresh vegetables. Other food allowed is pumpkin, grapefruits, mushrooms, asparagus, tomatoes, green beans, watercress, leeks, cabbage, spinach and spinach beets.
